The Power of Understanding: Tuning In to a Deeper Frequency

Every once in a while, we hit that snag in life—a tech glitch, a disagreement with

someone we love, a situation that just doesn’t make sense. And if you’re like me,

you might literally tap your forehead and call on the divine gift of understanding to

kick in. Yep, right there between the brows—because that’s where this superpower

lives.

Understanding isn’t just about smarts. It’s a spiritual faculty. It’s what helps us

know why. As Charles Fillmore said, “Wisdom is knowing; understanding is knowing

why.” And more often than not, that “why” doesn’t live out there in the world—it

lives inside us.

Understanding begins with knowing ourselves—our tendencies, our triggers, our

truths. It’s what allows us to hear others without defensiveness, to witness our

thoughts without judgment, and to make space for compassion over reaction. When

we pause, observe, and get curious, we stop playing someone else’s game and start

living from our own deep centre.

One of my go-to practices? When I feel stuck or foggy, I press gently against both

my forehead and my solar plexus and belly—igniting understanding, wisdom, and

order. I talk to myself like an old friend (usually calling myself by my last name,

“Hey DeSchutter”), and get those divine faculties talking to each other like, “C’mon

team, let’s sort this out.”

Understanding is also relational. Ever had someone mirror back to you what they

think you said—and finally you feel seen? That’s the kind of clarity that heals.

Whether in meditation, conversation, or community, this power comes alive when

we’re willing to look deeper and love harder.

So right now, I invite you to breathe in. Breathe out. Tap into that power. Be willing to

understand before you react. It’s not always easy, but it is always worth it.

We’re not here to stay the same. We’re here to grow, evolve, and awaken. And

understanding... that’s the spark that gets it all rolling. 🏍️

This reflection is inspired by the message shared in “The Power of

Understanding,” delivered in Nanaimo, British Columbia, on July 14, 2024.
